Enhancement of δ-SPH for ocean engineering applications through incorporation of a background mesh scheme

The improved Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) method with numerical diffusive terms, which is referred to as δ-SPH, has been widely applied into the studies of engineering problems, especially in fields ocean and coastal engineering. Nonetheless, there are still some drawbacks associated δ-SPH model case other particle methods. These correspond presence unphysical pressure noise well imprecise satisfaction dynamic free-surface boundary condition simulations. Through derivation implementation a so-called Background Mesh (BM) scheme enforcing spatial continuity calculated source term equation (Equation State; EOS), we present enhancements for providing more accurate field precise reproduction free-surface. enhancing effects newly proposed δ-SPH+BM portrayed through several engineering-related test cases including dam break violent sloshing flows both two three dimensions. incorporation BM shown result enhanced calculation consequence density fields.
